EO of Labor & Work Dvlpmnt is Hiring a Data Steward Near Boston, MA

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) is responsible for seven agencies and departments under this organization. EOLWD and its agencies are committed to developing a world-class, highly skilled labor force to support business growth and innovation in the Commonwealth.

EOLWD is seeking to hire a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Data Steward. The Data Steward will be responsible for creating short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall application and data management roadmap. The Data Steward will help shape data governance and stewardship at EOLWD. The incumbent will understand our data strategy and roadmap, and apply critical thinking to ensure productivity, security, and efficiency in data projects.

The primary work location for this role will be at 100 Cambridge St., Boston, Massachusetts 02114. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 5:00PM. This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Serve as the main contributor responsible for the clear definitions of data, ensuring the correct usage and context of data, enforcing policy/security/privacy requirements, and maintaining data quality and integrity within a respective business data domain and council.
  • Serve as the main contributor responsible for identification and definition of data in response to regulatory, legal, and audit requests and partner with various teams to ensure valid and controlled production of required data.
  • Lead the effort on building metrics on metadata descriptions from data sources to measure completeness of descriptions and compliance with metadata standards.
  • Build a culture of learning to understand data, what it represents, how it is created, and how to analyze and use (internally & externally) through training.
  • Oversee data lifecycle including operational and administrative management of data and overall data curation.
  • Drive discussions on data definition and classification based on lineage and business transformation data.
  • Define and assist with implementing specific data quality requirements and present metrics documenting adherence and improvements to data quality rules.
  • Lead in development and maintenance of business requirements and classifications of data.
  • Implement, enforce, and demonstrate strong understanding of data standards and policies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience as a Data Steward, or in a position with an emphasis on data governance.
  • Possess the ability to understand and apply key data stewardship and data governance concepts.
  • Prior experience in data management, data governance, data quality, main data management, and/or designing and implementing functional systems and data in a structured process is preferred, as well as experience with data management tools.
  • Research data definition, usage, and flow to gain expertise in existing systems.
  • Possess a deep understanding of respective business data domain(s).
  • Ability to observe steps and ascertain success of step or failure and root cause of step(s)
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with proven ability to establish and cultivate relationships with key partners.
  • Excellent relationship management, interpersonal, collaboration and negotiation skills.
  • Motivated to understand and keep current with relevant industry trends and best practices.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to navigate ambiguous situations.
  • Work effectively both independently and in a team environment with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects along with recurring responsibilities and adjust to changing priorities with minimal leader input.
  • Experience in application lifecycle management is preferred.
Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have (A) at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional or practical experience in the field of information technology application development and support, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. An Associate’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
II. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
III. A Master’s degree or higher in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
